Eoto Interview – Knoxville, TN – 11/8/2013

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

On Friday, November 8th, 2013 two voyagers and a horde of equipment known collectively as EOTO landed in East Tennessee to perform at Knoxville’s NV Nightclub. Before the show, cosmic co-pilots Jason Hann and Michael Travis were kind enough to sit down and share their thoughts on the directions of EOTO, the human species, and everything in between. Of course, their performance was as diverse as the topics covered during our conversation, ranging from down-tempo electronica merged seamlessly with roaring bass grooves, to full-scale tribal drumming at the end. Check out the recording or scroll down for the full-text version of our 30-minute rap.

Matt: So, continuous evolution seems to be a theme that you guys live by. It sort of seems to be the mantra both for Cheese and EOTO. Is that – or was that – ever a conscious decision? To do that, and sort of say hey let’s continue to propel this thing. Or, are you responding to fan feedback, or is it more of a mirroring of your own personal journeys as human beings?

Michael Travis: All of the above, yeah. I mean like, with Cheese we were always progressing, you know, from the minute we started. We were never settling with where we were at, and always randomly followed whatever we decided was the thing to be doing at the time. And EOTO — same way. EOTO is so easy to modulate because we have no songs or anything to get hung up on or to make it more difficult to reinvent ourselves.

This past Friday EOTO kicked off their tour in my hometown of Boston. They brought a new and improved set of visuals to go along with their Lotus stage and a killer set of lasers to dazzle the crowd. Take a look at these photos from the night!

EOTO – ZEE – Lotus Stage – Boston

Monday, February 13th, 2012

On Thursday, February 9 EOTO debuted their new Lotus stage setup.  Masterminded by the one and only VJ Zebbler, this 17 foot apparatus did not fail to impress.  The Zebbler Encanti Experience warmed up and dazzled the crowd with their unique blend of stone crushing bass and a larger than life visual display which filled up the entire width and height of the venue.  I walked through the crowd talking to people and it was clear that this was many people’s first EOTO show.  I assured them they were in for a treat.

Then after much anticipation, the curtain was lifted to reveal Jason Hann and Michael Travis elevated above the stage and enclosed by the giant lotus flower.  For the next hour and a half Read more…

Eoto @ The Big Up Festival 2011

Monday, August 8th, 2011

EOTO headlined the second annual Big Up Festival, on July 30, 2011.  Amidst countless up and coming bands from the northeast, EOTO stood out as seasoned veterans of the festival scene.  Their main stage set traversed the musical plane from grimy dubstep to psychedelic indian influenced melodies.  I have so much love, respect and appreciation for the EOTO team and for what they have accomplished in their 5 years together.  Nothing pre-recorded, 100% improv…The way it should be.

Special Thanks to Zach Teator for the photos.

EOTO – Boston 2011

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

This past Saturday EOTO came to town. Let’s face it, EOTO is not SCI. EOTO is a whole other beast, a nonstop force of bass with one purpose: make the crowd dance and dance and dance. Nothing too profound there. Yet EOTO shows are still packed with eager young bass heads as well as veteran SCI fans, night after night.

I was happy to revisit the Paradise and see what EOTO had in store for Boston. This is the third time EOTO has played the Paradise and it was a full house. I showed up rocking an official String Cheese Radio tshirt and immediately met up with some local “cheeseoto” heads standing in line. Read more…

Ever wonder what those electronic mad scientists Michael Travis and Jason Hann of EOTO are working with up on stage? The guys have recently spilled the beans and it’s quite a lengthy list

An Interview with Jason Hann of EOTO & SCI

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

EOTO played to a sold out house on Saturday, October 17 at Harper’s Ferry in Boston, MA. I was able to sit down with Jason Hann, drummer for EOTO and percussionist for The String Cheese Incident, before the show and spoke with him about dubstep, the growth of EOTO, their new album: Fire The Lazers, the future of SCI, Rothbury, and more.
