Driving down the dusty road at night turned into a challenge as we neared the festival grounds. Having some trouble finding the main entrance because of there being no lighting, A dark colored Subaru outback makes a u-turn and zooms up to our own Subaru’s window and the driver asks, “Do you know where Yarmony is?!” It’s Kyle Hollingsworth. With this as our first interaction at Yarmony it was apparent that the little festival fostered the String Cheese family feeling we all came to know and love.

Rancho Del Rio, (near yarmony’s old site State Bridge) a sort-of hippie commune in the beautiful rocky mountains, which is wandered through by the great Colorado River, saw about 1000 attendees. Riverside camping allowed festivarians to cool off at many points throughout the sweltering day without having to make much of a trek from their site. The campsites were peaceful and friendly, the air blasting full of 90′s cheese shows, while still making way for the partying animals moving about.

We arrived late, but thankfully Railroad Earth played a stunning second set until 1 AM on saturday night. They nailed songs such as “Colorado”, “Warhead Boogie,” “The Forecast” and during “I Need a Card” people were throwing cards in the air like confetti. We got the Jack of hearts. After their set, Kyle’s Band featuring Garret Sayers, Dave Watts  and Dan Schwindt along with special guests DJ Logic and Liza played a much needed funky-as-heck late night set Including an awesome rendition of BooBoo’s Pik a Nik. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd of which half remained until the very end which was at 4:30 AM.  Kyle ended by saying, “It’s 4:30, time to go to bed.” It was a very well put together set for Kyle’s band. Garret Sayers a.k.a. “Garret Slayers” (nicknamed after his performance that night) is also always a highlight and fun to watch with his african highlife and bebop jazz style influences.

To boot, security was even very nice and calm. This meant that when people were caught sneaking in they were made to work either picking up trash or helping in some other way. At the end of the festival Security was going around and arranging carpools for people to get home to major cities. The community aspect of Yarmony amazed me and I hope to see more festivals like this. This is the Colorado way.

Electric Avenue Music and Arts Festival has just announced a Late Night All Star Jam featuring Kyle Hollingsworth and Michael Kang of SCI along with Speech of Arrested Development, Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic and many others from this historic downtown event (Additional $15).

The Electric Avenue Festival, which is slated to take place over Labor Day weekend on the streets of Historic Five Points in Downtown Denver, has just announced their two-day schedule. The event will highlight over 22 live bands on two stages, arts and crafts vendors, outdoor beer and liquor tents as well as food booths representing the best in Colorado eatery. And, at a price of only $65 for a two-day pass or $130 for a two-day VIP Pass, it may be the most exciting and definitely the most affordable event in Colorado for music goers over the holiday.

Taking place on Sept 4th and 5th the event features a stellar line up of independent live music including Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Living Legends, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Pnuma Trio and even a Michael Jackson Tribute band aptly named “Who’s Bad” among others.

The newly revitalized Five Points district is seeing an amazing surge in artistic and retail growth over the last few years. With a dramatic drop in crime and a bustling music scene developing under the new management at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, their self-produced outdoor event is just one of many signs of transformation in this quaint historic neighborhood.

Event organizers are expecting over 4,000 people during the two day event which will feature an array of musical styles from Rock, Jam, Jazz/Funk, Hip Hop, Electronic, Bluegrass and Experimental music genres. Event participants will find ample parking and an urban festival environment that is so close to the heart of the city, area residents are encouraged to bike ride to the event grounds or take the Light Rail directly to festival gates.

The two-day and three-night event will take place between September 3-5th on Welton St. between 26th and 27th Streets as well as inside Cervantes’ and The Other Side, with music starts at 1PM each day and a kick-off party featuring Who’s Bad – The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band taking place on Friday, September 3rd.

(Bond, CO) Ticket sales for the fifth annual YarmonyGrass Festival are now underway. The high country camping event known for unrivaled mountain activities and top shelf national talent will take place in Bond, CO on August 20-22nd offering concert goers an experience that is as good for the soul as it is for the ears.
2010 marks the five-year anniversary for the YarmonyGrass Festival – an intimate two-day camping event slated for late summer in the Colorado Rockies. In just a few short years the event has grown from a word of mouth gathering into a full-fledged festival specializing in all the activities the Colorado Rockies has to offer.

YarmonyGrass features an array of musical flavors including a two-night stand with the six-piece Americana outfit, Railroad Earth. Long time veterans of YarmonyGrass, Railroad Earth has built incredible steam over the past few years with notable performances on some of the most prestigious stages in the country, including Red Rocks, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits Festival, Telluride Bluegrass, Rothbury, 10,000 Lakes, and many more. Other notables include Bill Nershi (String Cheese Incident) performing with guitarist Scott Law and Tao Seeger, as well as Head for the Hills, Elephant Revival, EOTO, The Contribution and Kyle Hollingsworth Band – performing with DJ Logic and members of the Motet.
