All String Cheese Incident

Setlist: 2012-07-01 – Electric Forest

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

The last cheese show of Electric Forest was awesome!  Kicking it off in the best way possible with a hefty handful of bluegrass featuring members of The Travelin’ McCourys and Keller Williams.  THIS is what makes cheese’s festivals so great.  Rare guest sit ins from some of the top bluegrass musicians in the world.  Not to mention the classic combo of Keller and Cheese made for some dust kicking good times with Keller’s Porta Potty and Best Feeling.  The set ended with an energetic Search, Kyle’s new one: Let’s Go Outside, and Colorado Bluebird Sky.

Second set brought some funk with Jellyfish featuring Dominic Lali (Big Gigantic) on Saxophone.  Joyful Sound featured a loop from Paul Revere (Beastie Boys), just as it did during the Hangout.  We’ll see if they stick with that version of the song throughout the rest of the tour.  They ended the set with a great Lonesome Fiddle Blues and a big Howard.  The encore was solid with Dominic Lali again sitting in for some jazz followed by some reggae.

Overall, Electric Forest seemed like a blast.  The band was clearly having a great time playing, the guest sit ins were diverse and didn’t overwhelm Cheese’s sound, and the crowd was loving it.  I’m glad so many new festival goers are being exposed to SCI and are learning what makes an Incident so special.

Were you at the festiavl?  What were your experiences like?  How was the crowd?  What kind of madness ensued on Saturday night during Rivertrance?  I was on couch tour so lets here what you have to say!

Saturday night in the forest looked pretty amazing!  Second set proved to truly be an Incident with visual performers, theatrics, and fireworks during Rivertrance.  The setlist is definitely one for the books.  Who was there?  How was the show?  Let’s here your thoughts by commenting below.

String Cheese Incident Electric Forest 2012

Last night was the first String Cheese Incident show of Electric Forest 2012.  They came out with guns blazing, doing some serious jamming right off the bat with Smile, Close Your Eyes > Orange Blossom Special.  They also debuted their new single Can’t Wait Another Day to close the set.  I think this song has a lot of potential but it was lacking a jam this time around.  We’ll see how it evolves through the tour.

Second set opened with Climb, a favorite of mine and then the band switched gears and rode the electronic untzy sound the rest of the show.  Valley of the Jig was hard and heavy, way back home was long and spacey- how it should be, and then Desert Dawn culminated with a full on dubstep jam.  Not unlike the Kashmir at last year’s Electric Forest.

But don’t take my word for it, I’m on couch tour until the west coast.  What do you think of the setlist/performance?  Add your comments below!

String Cheese Incident 12-10-11

After two incredible nights of music at The Aragon and a great afternoon with Family Groove Company at Kyle’s Brew Fest, it was finally time for the tour closer. I had been looking forward to this night for quite some time. There is no question that this show would be quintessential Cheese and one last chance to rage with my favorite jamgrass band. We arrived a bit earlier so as not to have to deal with the massive line we experienced the night prior. Due to the fact that I hadn’t gotten many shots of Kyle, Travis, and Hann I borrowed Mikey’s camera because it had a longer lens so I could make it happen. They opened with Read more…

String Cheese Incident 12-9-11

We arrived for night two at the Aragon to a massive line as people slowly filtered in. I was a bit worried about missing the pit, but I got in quickly and made my way up front. It was obvious the luxurious space we experienced on night one was nowhere to be found. Fuzzy people literally oozed off the floor in all directions. There were more photogs shooting the band, but still plenty of room to maneuver. String Cheese came out with a Kang fueled “Best Feeling” to get the night started. Read more…

String Cheese Incident 12-08-2011 After months of anticipation the date had finally arrived. It was time for a Cheesy get down in the Windy City. I flew out the night before and enjoyed some of the amazing food this wonderful place has to offer before loading up in the car with some dear friends and hitting the Lot. We arrived right around 7 PM, which didn’t give us much time to wander around before heading inside. The room was loosely packed as we found a spot Kyle side and I left my friends to get to the pit to snap some pictures. There was an electric energy in the room as Read more…

SCI Pittsburgh 2011

12/06/2011 Stage AE – Pittsburgh, PA
Set 1: Drums > San Jose, Close Your Eyes, Pirates, Solution, Don’t Say > Looking Glass, Rollin’ In My Sweet Baby’s Arms
Set 2: Happy Birthday Jason, Shine, Pretty Polly, Up The Canyon, Rivertrance, Best Feeling > Black Clouds
Encore: Ramble On

This show fell on Jason Hann’s birthday and although I was not present, I know this show was special.  They kicked off the show with a drums jam into San Jose, and then did the very rare Pirates.  Second set featured a happy birthday to Jason, then Shine, Pretty Polly, and Up the Canyon!  Ahhh! Can’t believe they did Pretty Polly.  Looks like an amazing show.  See you in Chicago!

SCI – Orpheum Theatre – Boston, MA

Set 2: ¡Bam!, Rhythm of the Road, Water, So Far From Home, Rosie > Jellyfish > Happy Birthday Jesse > Jellyfish > Outside and Inside > Mysterious Ways > Outside and Inside
Encore: Blackberry Blossom > White Freightliner

This was a hometown show for me.  Nothing like taking the subway 5 stops to the venue…  The show was sold out and packed full of familiar faces.  Highlights of the first set were Yo Se, Little Hands and Walk This Way.  Set 2 got kicked off with a Bam! then Rhythm of the Road and then a beautiful Water.  Then there was a quirky Jellyfish, which featured a happy birthday tune for SCI’s road manager, Jesse.  Jesse ran around the stage and fed whiskey to each band member. The set closed out with Read more…
